Computer show on PBS in the 1985-1995?

A friend asks me:

There was a show on PBS that used to come on before the Computer Chronicles back in the 80's. Unlike the Computer Chronicles, it was more of a documentary or instructional show about computers. One episode may be about disk storage another may be about memory, another may be about mainframes vs. personal computers, etc.

There was a host - veteran character actor - who used to introduce each episode, resembling Richard Crenna, with reddish-brown hair

He never said his name on the show. This show was partially funded by the Annenberg/CPB Project.

Any clues, answer, ideas?

Without knowing the actual host's name, I can't pinpoint it for you. But here are some places you could look through:

Wikipedia listing of programs (current and former) broadcast by PBS:

IMDB Company credit listing for Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) [us]:

Good luck.
