Japanese Hair Straightening?

I saw on this TV show, where this woman got Japanese Hair Straightening at a salon..and supposedly it's so wonderul and lasts for a year? And the hair is amazingly silky (just like beautiful Asian hair). Anyone know anything about it or know someone who's gotten it done?

Chemically altering your hair will always change the integrity of the hair and you definitely need to have an experienced pro do this job for you! The techniques used in this type of straightening are used in a series of applying chemicals to the hair followed by blow drying and ironing and then repeated. The hair that is treated will last until it is cut off if it is done properly but as new growth appears, that hair is called virgin (untreated) hair and it will not be straight so the process would have to be done again. Even after a pro straightening you have to use the right products and irons to get amazingly silky hair.

I know several girls that have gotten their hair straighten much like what you've seen on TV. It has become extremely popular. Honestly, it doesn't last for a whole year and you still have to use the straightening iron to do the touch up. The reason why it doesn't last for a whole year is because new hair will grow and the portion that is growing will be the original hair that you would have before you gotten it straigten. Hope this helps.

I had it done and I'm very pleased with it. My curly, big hair is now completely straight. You'll have to have the roots redone every six months or so, but it's less expensive. Here in California, it costs about $400 the first time and $250 for having it redone. Well worth it. I wake up every morning and my hair looks good. Oh, it also takes about 4-5 hours to do it.
